A Codicil is a document which is executed in the same way as a Will.
The purpose of a Codicil is to make an amendment to the terms of an existing Will. An amendment could be to:
- add another gift to the Will;
- revoke the appointment of an executor;
- add a replacement executor;
- revoke a gift;
- remove a beneficiary
Codicils are best used to make small changes to the Will. If you wish to make a number of changes, or to make a significant change to the terms of your Will, it would be best to make a new Will.
